Know Your Rights
Have you noticed we are fast becoming a police state?
In some cultures its citizens know they have no rights so they “tow the line”. In this country we are educated to assume that we have rights so we mistakenly believe that the system will do the right thing. Unfortunately this is rarely the case. Every day there is evidence of our rights being abused so what ought we to do about protecting ourselves?
Try our motto: pass on knowledge in a caring manner by educating ourselves.
When confronted by the police for questioning:
BE POLITE; give your correct name and address only to identify yourself; ask to be allowed to record in note form what is occurring; ask how what when where and why. RECORD —- ALWAYS RECORD!
Record all answers or statements made by police to the best of your ability, in the first person. Ask if a close witness can accompany you every step of the investigation and get them also to record. All denials of your reasonable requests should be recorded to show the pattern of the police investigation. Do exactly what the police are supposed to do, RECORD every word and every step of the investigation.
ASK TO BE ALLOWED TO CONTACT A SOLICITOR FROM OUR FIRM — THE SOLICITOR YOU HAVE ENGAGED SHOULD SPEAK TO THE SENIOR OFFICER AT THE SCENE. The Solicitor will ask the Police to explain everything concerning the investigation. The Solicitor will come to an agreement with the Police as to where he can meet you and arrange for a place of questioning.
DO NOT VOLUNTEER ANY FURTHER INFORMATION. OBEY all police directions. POLICE HAVE THE POWER TO TAKE YOU AWAY FOR FURTHER QUESTIONING. If this occurs, ask where are you to be taken and the reason for the further questioning. Again, HOW WHAT WHEN WHERE & WHY. RECORD RECORD. Get you friends to follow in their own vehicles to place of questioning. Urgently have your friends make arrangements for a Solicitor to be present at a place for questioning.
DO NOT, under any circumstances enter into idle conversation of any nature! Remain SILENT until your solicitor is present. OCCUPY YOUR MIND WITH WHAT YOU WILL INSTRUCT YOU SOLICITOR ABOUT THIS INVESTIGATION UPON HIS ARRIVAL. Have your solicitor find out all police allegations against you then have your solicitor prepare a concise statement concerning the incident. Then participate with record of interview to the point that you are reasonably able to. Then hand over prepared statement and refuse to answer any further questioning.
If you are arrested YOU MUST ACCOMPANY POLICE TO THE WATCH-HOUSE you will be fingerprinted, photographed, ask for watch-house bail and for an appearance date to attend court if allowed to go home.
REMEMBER LOOSE LIPS SCURRIES FREEDOM AND INFORMATION EMPOWERS AND LIBERATES. KNOWLEDGE CONQUERS ALL FEAR.
So if you feel the cold chill of police questioning coming your way IGNORANCE OF THE LAW IS NO DEFENCE and a false hope that the right thing will be done only fill jails with people claiming that they were innocent.
REMEMBER THAT ITS WHAT COMES OUT OF A PERSON’S MOUTH ARE THE FACTS THAT CONDEMN THEM.
